    Our Vision

Hyndman Area Health Center's (HAHC) vision is to improve the community by providing quality and affordable health care to all patients, their families, and respective communities. Our vision statement includes:
HAHC's objective to reflect the values and needs of our community as a whole.
Access to core health care services that include wellness and preventive services such as medical, dental, and specialty care.
With federal support, an expansion of services, opening on-site pharmacies, extending hours of service, and accommodating special populations by employing bilingual and culturally trained staff.

    Our Advocacy

Hyndman Area Health Center, through its advocacy on behalf of the medically needy, provides a safety net for people facing financial, social, cultural, and language barriers in obtaining health care—medical, oral health, mental health, prescription assistance and related medical services by continuing to improve services and facilities and growing a financially sound and progressive community health center.

    Where We Serve

The service area of HAHC includes all of Bedford County, a rural 1,017 square mile area bordering Maryland in the southwest portion of PA. Multiple areas in Bedford County are designated Medically Underserved Areas(MUA). The total population of Bedford County is 49,762 (Census 2010). The population is predominantly white(98.1%) with small numbers of Hispanics, African Americans and Asians.

More than a third of residents, 36.6%(18,115 people) live below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guildeline(FPG), and 12.8% of residents(6,318 people) live below 100% of the FPG. Approximately 11.9% of the population is wholly uninsured, and 36.1% have public coverage (Medicaid or Medicare)(Source: US Census, 2008, 2010 3Year Estimates). A disproportionate number of residents grew up unaccustomed to utilizing preventative care.

Barriers to care include a shortage of dental providers(especially those willing to accept patients with Medicaid or the uninsured), lack of ability to pay for care, and distance and travel time required to reach affordable care. These barriers have resulted in significant dental health disparities.
